V. Discerning and electing general chapter delegates
Discerning and electing general chapter delegates is an essential part of preparing for the general chapter at the level of provincial, pro-provincial or conventual priory chapters. Is not a side-issue on the agenda, but a considerable chapter action. Before actually electing delegates, sufficient time for orientation, discussion, and discernment is to be scheduled.
The master general – if present at the area chapter – shall provide orientation and accurate information about a general chapter in the Order of the Holy Cross.
VI. Criteria for discerning and electing the delegates to the 2021 General Chapter:
Delegates are confreres fully invested in the Crosier way of life and strongly committed to make this way of life work. They are marked by integrity and a positive perspective on all the dimensions of Crosier religious life.
Delegates must have a deep sense of their significant collegial responsibility for the worldwide Order vision on Crosier religious life as spelled out in the Constitutions and the General Statutes.
Delegates, before the chapter, invest significant time and energy for well preparing themselves ahead of time for the chapter work through reading and study, reflection and conversation, prayer and meditation.
Delegates are able to build international and multicultural community at the chapter, [Unity in Charity] and are committed to work and to collaborate constructively at the common agenda of the Order during chapter [Bringing, Breaking, and Sharing]:
(1) Build up a spirit of communion at chapter as a collegiate decision-making body.
(2) Focus on what the Order and its leadership at all levels should be working at after the chapter.
Delegates must be available and present at the chapter for the entire chapter period and are not free to engage in regular pastoral work.
Pre-chapter documentation (Lineamenta, Instrumentum Laboris, State of the Order) will be published in various languages. Documentation at the chapter is in English.
Delegates, after the chapter, are seriously willing and committed to take lead in following through on decisions, directives and outcomes of the general chapter and make them work.
